The Durdans Story
Founded in 1945, Durdans Hospital has grown into a world-class tertiary care institute in Colombo.
Durdans Hospital has been a trusted name in Sri Lankan healthcare for more than seven decades. Since its foundation in 1945, the hospital has built a reputation for regional leadership in medical excellence and innovation, guided by the belief that improving community health should be driven by both passion and compassion.
The hospital offers 260 beds, including 60 in critical care, across spacious modern rooms. Facilities include an ultramodern theatre complex with eight theatres, state-of-the-art intensive care units, a modern radiology unit, a fully equipped physiotherapy unit and two catheterisation laboratories.
The Durdans Heart Command Centre and Heart Station are supported by leading cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, with diagnostic tests, advanced surgical treatments, cardiac rehabilitation and post-operative counselling.
Durdans employs more than 2,000 professionals, including 350 specialist consultants, 15 resident consultants and approximately 50 senior medical officers, supported by trained nurses, paramedics and non-medical staff.
Durdans Hospital was the first healthcare institution in Sri Lanka to be endorsed by Joint Commission International for meeting the Gold Standard in Global Healthcare, and was re-accredited with the JCI Gold Seal of Approval in 2017.

Historical milestones include the original military hospital in 1939, Ceylon Hospitals Limited in 1946, maternity and outpatient care in 1968, radiology in 1984, ICU in 1993, pathological laboratory and blood bank in 1996, Heart Command Centre and Heart Station in 1999, cardiovascular surgery and interventional cardiac procedures in 2000, emergency treatment in 2001, listing on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 2003, and quality enhancement for international accreditation from 2011.
